 James Mueller passed away this past Friday, February 3rd. The former Fr. Mueller as most of us knew him, was at St. Patrick’s Church from about 1965 through about 1977. He worked in many capacities. This young energetic priest, besides doing his parish work, mentored our corps as it grew. He often traveled with the corps driving bus, repairing instruments, but mostly used his “fatherly” skills to help many of our members who needed guidance and direction. That is definitely a reminder of what we call today, “Class.”

My favorite memory of Fr. Jim, was when he would stack baritone cases to make an altar for the corps’ Sunday morning mass. Very often, members from other corps would join us in our Sunday worship. As an advisor he worked tirelessly to help get and provide for things that the corps needed. Through his influence the corps rehearsed for 5 years, free of charge, at the nearby St. John’s Gymnasium. His, “What do you need?” was his come-on sentence, and he was ready to join you in the search. He was definitely an early version of what it means to be, “Better Every Day!” More on Fr.
