Pioneer 2013 Information

Pioneer is proud to announce some exciting changes for the 2013 season!

While 90% of the teaching staff from last year are returning, several personnel are assuming different roles. We have also hired new arrangers in both Brass and Percussion.

VISUAL DESIGNER: MR. RICK MOREY
COLOR GUARD DESIGNERS: MR. SETH PEARSON AND MR. GASTON WARD
BRASS ARRANGER: MR. JERRY KELSEY
PERCUSSION ARRANGER: MR. JOHN McFARLAND

MS JEN TARKA is taking on the role of PIONEER SHOW COORDINATOR in addition to her position of being our Cymbal Instructor. She will be working with the design team and staff caption heads maintaining the schedule of progress. This is a huge task that she is ready, willing, and capable to handle. Jen is a Pioneer Alumnus and for the past 6 years has served as our Cymbal instructor. She has always worked with our Pioneer Indoor Percussion, as well as a performer in the Chicago Bulls Drum Line. Jen’s goal is to accomplish as much as possible during the winter rehearsal camps before the spring “everydays”.

MR. BRIAN WILSON is assuming the role of PIONEER STAFF COORDINATOR, that was previously held by Jen Tarka. Brian, a Pioneer Alumnus will be managing our 27 plus instructors with scheduling, locations, and travel planning. This will be quite time consuming, requiring much attention to detail, Brian’s organizational skills are just one of his fine attributes. Mr. Wilson will also maintain his role as a mellophone instructor.

MR. STEVEN WEST will be assuming the role of PIONEER ASSISTANT DIRECTOR taking on many of the functions that Brian Wilson did in the past. Steve, also a Pioneer Alumnus, has taught the corps for several years in the visual area. Steve, from Wyoming is a high school music teacher in New Castle. During the summer months, Mr. West, who has the keen sense of what needs to be accomplished and does not wait to take action, will assist the corps director in many areas including managing the support personnel as well as taking care of our members’ needs. Steve’s caring demeanor is an asset that will be of benefit us all.

MR. LANSING DIMON will again serve as BRASS CAPTION HEAD. He will be assisted by Dr. Jason Ladd, Dr. Cecil Austin, Mr. Randall Bennett, Mr. Jonathan Gifford, and Mr. Brian Wilson

MR. TYRELL CARVER will again serve as PERCUSSION CAPTION HEAD. He will be assisted by Mr. David Edwards, Mr. Robert Buss, Mr. Kenji Okubo, Mr.Robert Ballengee, Mr. Lukas Snyder, Ms Jennifer Tarka, Mr. Zachary Brown, and Mr. Chase Tonar

MR. SEAN McDERMOTT will again serve as VISUAL CAPTION HEAD. He will be assisted by Mr. Joshua Pier, Ms Amanda Chuboff, Mr. Dubravko Zaja, Mr. Steven Wright, and Mr. Mike Zehrhusen.

MR. SETH PEARSON will gain serve as COLOR GUARD CAPTION HEAD. He will be assisted by Mr. Gaston Ward and Ms Jalissa Bishop.

Anam Nua
Celtic for A NEW SPIRIT

This is our quest to enter the fresh evolving field of Contemporary Christian Music. After a lot of listening and exploring, we have come up with what we feel will be an exciting new audience-engaging musical presentation that is not often used by other corps. We will elaborate further at a later date as to the promotion of our New Spirit production!

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

JOSHUA LLOYD and JESSICA MARSALA will return to Pioneer for their second season as Pioneer’s Drum Majors.

SHELBY NIEHAUS will replace Steven Wright as our Horn Sergeant. The guard Sergeant position at this time is open, having to replace age-out Lisa Janasik and her predecessor Jalissa Bishop. We have no doubt that someone will step into this position and do an excellent job. Pioneer Corps has a lot of talented extraordinary human beings!
